TRAVEL WELL PREPARED

What you need before you go.

Your entry requirements depend on your nationality, passport, resident status, and how you travel to Canada.

A valid passport

Use the passport you will travel with. Your eTA is linked to this document.

An email address

Receive your application confirmation and any requests for further information.

A payment card

Have a supported credit or debit card ready for the CAD $7 government fee.

Who needs an eTA?

Most visa-exempt foreign nationals need an eTA to fly to or transit through Canada. You do not need an eTA when arriving by land or sea. Canadian citizens, U.S. citizens, and lawful U.S. permanent residents are exempt.

Visa-exempt passport countries

These countries and passport categories generally qualify. Specific conditions can apply to British, Hong Kong, Israeli, and Taiwanese passports; other travellers may qualify under conditional eligibility rules.
